Board engages brakes out of nowhere

You are never expecting it no matter how much you are expecting it. This is the only issue I have had with builds. First time it happened it took weeks to fully trust it again because I didn’t know why. Once found it was all systems go again and some preventative measures.

I recently found another problem that was simple but hard to spot and that was my remote auto shut off function was disabled for some fuckery reason so everytime I lazily chucked my remote into my helmet after a ride it stayed on till the next time. Eventually instead of weeks of running time I had only days. Esk8 is dangerous because its dangerous. lol

This is exactly me when I fell last time, just can’t trust it to ride comfortably cos you never know when will it happen again…

You have to find the problem because its there. I am sure that finding and troubleshooting is the very best way to learn. The sense of relief when you do find the issue is worth the grazes.

I used the Alien remote for the first 3 weeks of my last build. It was fine out in the sticks but I took my board into London and it was cutting out like you described and every time the connection cut out the board would brake fully. At one point I was stood still with my finger on the throttle and the board was jerking forward and then braking suddenly then accelerating for a spit second followed by the brakes. I swapped it out for the VX1 immediately and then the trampa wand and never had any more issues

I got to a charging point and charged the remote and then for the rest of the ride it didnt do it but I couldnt trust it

I had that issue with the old winning remote, changed ppm cable and it was all sorted.out. The APS has been flawless, I mostly ride at the countryside but I’ve done a fair bit of group rides in Stockholm and also used the same remote for the Paris event.

I do like the finger trigger better than the thumb wheel, I know the wand has a kit to convert it into a finger trigger remote but damn that thing looks huge with that kit mounted

I dont find the trigger kit to be particularly comfortable on the wand.

That reminds me I did also have the brakes slamming on once when I was out with @Tonkatron. Turned out the VX1 cable was loose and I cable tied it around the connector and the receiver as it was coming loose there.

So I just checked all my connectors and solder joints, nothing to report there, everything looks good.

The PPM cable was sitting nicely in both the vesc and receiver but I replaced it with a new one anyways.

Motor detection gives simular values for both motors. The values are not as spot on as I’d like to remember but nothing that makes me worried about a short circuit in the windings.

Will have to try the board tomorrow, probably not gonna be a speed run…

Didnt read the whole thread, but if the problem is still not solved I have to mention that i had a similar experience once, and i found out that in my case my remote lost connection to the reciever, bc i was in downhill stance with the hands behind my back, when suddenly the board broke.
My remote signal is very strong in general, i can accelerate and brake my board while standing 10 meters away and the signal works fine through doors and walls, but NOT through our human body. Just a single leg in the way of the signal (2,4gh remote) and the connection is interrupted.
I ve tested that with all of my boards, bc i ride the same drive on multiple boards and this weird interruption appears on every drive. The braking shall be some kind of safety feature, if the remote loses connection, but imo it would be more safe if the board would just turn into a free rolling.
Since i know about this i never had that issue again, bc now i always hold the remote in front of my body.
peace

Hi all

I’m a partner of a law firm Accident Legal. We have commenced a proceeding against Evolve in the Federal Court of Australia on behalf of a client who alleges that he suffered serious personal injuries when a safety defect in the Evolve GTR Carbon All Terrain Standard Skateboard caused the wheels of the skateboard to suddenly stop: he alleges he was propelled off his board due to this malfunction: which ‘felt like’ a sudden lock-up of the brakes. Note I am using the words “alleged” because Evolve will likely, and is entitled to, deny liability and defend the action. Only a court can decide whether or not our client’s allegations are correct. We have expert evidence which we believe supports this. We are looking to speak to witnesses who have experienced something similar. We would love to talk to you: just email me on pat.oshea@accidentlegal.com.au or ring on (07) 3740 0202. Thanks guys - your help would be very much appreciated!! Cheers, Pat O’Shea
