Got any tips for foreigners going soon?(me)
Keep updated on the news and stay away from the legislation district where the protests have been at the past week. Areas like Mong Kok where I am is fine.
Also good to talk to some locals and give them moral support if need be, mostly the young folks
Never forget Tiananmen. Hong Kong needs to stay free and independent.
I worry about the governance of Carrie Lam, but she has backed down now it seems
Power to the people
Pipe dream I fear. Does anyone really think this is possible in modern China? I hope, but the pragmatist in me knows different.
I can imagine authorities bring pretty interested in anyone ‘travelling at speed in full body armor and full face helmet with a heavy looking backpack with curly red and black wires sticking out, who may be holding a trigger or gun like object’
China wants it all back under control, Hong king, taiwan and various others places it could conceivably lay claim to, due to a shrinking GDP, a growing deficit and a fear of the future
China will do fine without either Taiwan or Hong Kong. They are doing it for face.
this is the sad truth.
Very important thing in China, sadly
Aka ego the bane of mankind
I have worked in Mainland China on a Project and I have been to Hong Kong and Taiwan a couple of times.
I can say that I hate mainland china and I love Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Everything is so different without the sick mindset of mainland china.
They are for sure not “doing fine” without them because this is the only thing that keeps China from being a complete low quality depressed communist country.
First generation born outside of Taiwan!!! I love taiwan
One country two systems may be the new USA norm soon also.
This bit of drone flying will go down in history
Insane… I was just in Hongkong two weeks ago… I hope they work it out… I love hiking in Lantau…
I was there just two months ago, first time and I was in awe - what a place.
Yeah it’s awesome… it’s the perfect mix of nature and supercity.
In Hong Kong Island there are many nice trails as well as in Hong Kong and Lantau.
The Infrastructure is perfect however it’s very expensive and you end up paying around 100 $ per night for a literal dirthole of a room…
But compared to China it’s heaven
