3 Year Old Trampa Scramboard never worked..Need some advice

Get someone with experience to have a look.
@Lee_Wright is a good address.
The ESCs in there are not really trustworthy.
That needs a close look at. The BMS should not be wired into the discharge circuit. An experienced builder can check that and rewire stuff if necessary.

It should be relative easy to get the board rolling again.

Hey Dareno, sorry mate its nothing to do with trampa, the trampa board is the only good thing about it. The name of the company i brought from is scramboards, It looks like they gone under as well heres a link to there site from waybayback machine Scramboards and thats the board i purchased from them. Lee thanks mate really appreciate the offer, very kind of you. Unfortunately, I would never get time to come down your kneck of the woods. Im on the go 19 -20 hours a day 7 days a week, 3 of my kids have dissablities and why its taken me so long to get back to sorting the board out…it was gonna be my little escape…and still will be once i sort it out lol

Okay guys i managed to just get 5 mins to take a look at the battery and check voltage across each group which are as follows
4.12
8.25
12.37
16.5
20.5
--------Big jump
28.7
32.8
36.9
41

When i check the volts at the discharge xt60 connector it reads only 36volts

Its also been wired to bypass the bms on the discharge side as Andy had pointed out above.

So am i right in thinking the bms is not working? The pack is unbalanced and jumps from 20v to 28v

Ive put the Actual P group voltages in brackets. That big jums appears to be 2 pe groups in series, which would be a perfect 4.1v per p group. This whoul also be supplemented by the fact that its supposed to be a 10p pack, whereas you have measured 9 voltages, hence one being missing.

With this in mind, it appears that the pack is in good health, and that the bms has kept everything in balance, as it is supposed to.

Since your BMS is charge only, it should not interfere with the connection to the ESC’s. THis suggests one of two things.

  1. ESC’s are busted
  2. Some sort of fuse or anti-spark in between Battery and ESC connection.

In this photo, there appears to be a fused positive cable to the circled connector, have you ensured this fuse is in good health?

Actually taking a closer look at that photo, the wiring is deceptively confusing. Is that aforementioned positive wire coming from the charge port?

Hey Zach thanks for replying.

Yeah the wiring of the board is differnt from any Ive seen, it used a relay to switch on the board.

What i did was bypass all this by wiring up a simple connection from the battery to the vesc with an xt90 antispark and still no power to the vesc and the voltage only ready 36v not 41

What would cause the voltage to read 36 and not 41 at the battery discharge connector if its bypassing the bms?

My f@#k up here, I missed a group of cells so 24.6v was the one missed, so no big jump.
What i dont understand is at the end of the cells it measures 40v but at the end of the discharge xt60 connector its 36v?

Also if i connect the voltmeter display from the board to the xt60 it wont power it on but if i connect it directly to the Pos and Neg on the battery cells it powers the meter and reads full?

As the bms is bypassed the only wire going to the bms is the Neg wire, so is the Neg wired wrong for it to bypass? Its the only difference from me connecting the meter directly.

Hmm. Just to confirm, the positive and negative leads that come off of the pack into the xt60 connector are indeed connected to the proper positive and negative of the pack? Any chance you can take more photos of the wire layout from the battery to the ESC’s?

Are you measuring 41v at the battery terminals and 36v at the far side of your XT?

There’s a lot of ambiguity on just out of picture wiring, but when I see this I suspect the connection itself

I’m not using any of the wiring in the board on the pictures above that what the board came like original I’ve took the heat shrink off to check the wiring.

Yeah thats clean. Well done. The only think that i can think of is that since the Black wire used for the XT60 Output is wired to the C-, which to my knowledge is the charge negative, the BMS may be employing some sort of backwards current protection or something, hence the lower pack voltage. If you touch your negative tester probe to the P-, and the pack Positive, what do you read?
